Lead Minister

Brett is Southpoint’s founding minister, and has served in ministries in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan since 1984. His degrees in Bible, Ministry and Theology (B.A., M.A., M.Div.) come from Cincinnati Christian University. In Indianapolis, Brett worked as a Christian radio announcer, met his wife, Penny, in their church youth group (also a CCU graduate and a Southpoint Administrative Assistant), and married in 1985. They have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve & Kelly, and Thomas.

Mark was born in King, North Carolina and grew up on Pop-Tarts & sweet tea. He graduated from Kentucky Christian University in 1999 where he met his wife, Cindy. Cindy and Mark have two boys, Curran & Gage, and one girl, Aidan. They served in churches in both Kentucky & North Carolina, then came to Southpoint in 2006. They are both passionate about growing healthy families and training/sending kids and adults to go share the gospel all over Downriver & the world.

Kenny was born in Ann Arbor, and grew up in the town of Grass Lake. Ken came to Southpoint in 2008, and over time started teaching, became a Deacon, and then an Elder. In addition to serving at Southpoint, he works full-time at Ford, and enjoys riding his Harley and raising chickens, pigs, and turkeys! Ken is married to Kris, and they have four children: Erica, Kyle, Courtney, and Jacob, and two grandsons: Vinny and Isaac.

Rich Collins

Rich Collins

Huron Campus Pastor

Rich was born in Lapeer. He proudly served in the Marine Corps and has spent the majority of his life in aviation and running a chain of Martial Arts schools. Rich also has done a lot of racing, including motocross, cars and bikes. He has five children: Courtney, Megan, Kelly, Rebecca, Elise; and a wife, Stacy, who also serves at Southpoint as the Kids Minister. Rich and his family came to Southpoint in 2001.

Central Operations Minister

Trent was born and raised in the mid-Michigan area. He has a Bachelors in Automotive Management from Ferris State University and a certificate in Bible from Moody Theological Seminary. Trent started serving in ministry full-time in 2005 and has been serving at Southpoint since 2010. He has been married to his wife, Sarah, since 2008 and they have a son named Evan and a daughter named Taya.

Cindy started attending Southpoint in 1994 after seeing an ad in the yellow pages that said, “Come as you are!” She met her husband, Greg, at Southpoint and married in 2000. They have four kids - Alyssa, Joe and Ryan, who is married to Emma. Cindy came on staff in 2005 after working in the legal field for 17 years and loves making sure people feel welcomed and at home here so they can get connected. Cindy loves to collect vinyl records, and at home she relaxes by watching movies and and spending time with her family.

Matt is a pastor’s kid who grew up in British Columbia (Canada), and Seattle, Washington. He moved to Lansing, Michigan in 2012 to attend Great Lakes Christian College and major in Biblical Studies. He has served in Youth Ministry most of his life and is so excited to bring the Gospel to the students of Downriver! His favorite activities are hanging out with his best friend (wife) Jenny, playing guitar, hanging out with his friends, dancing in the moonlight, watching The Office or Parks and Rec, and hiking.

Kids Minister

Stacy has been attending Southpoint since 2001 with her husband, Rich, their five kids, and one granddaughter. She worked as an elementary teacher in the Gibraltar Schools for 15 years. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Education from Western Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University. Stacy enjoyed serving on the Praise Team as her kids were growing and now she is pleased that God has lead her to lead the Kids Ministry full time since 2013.

Jason Deese

Creative Arts Minister

Jason is a Jesus-loving, worship-leading, Bible-preaching guy who was born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina. He has a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Jason’s ministry journey has taken him across the country, from North Carolina to Florida to Las Vegas, where he served as a youth pastor and worship pastor. He’s been on staff at Southpoint since 2011. His mission in life is to help people connect with God, as well as to be a great husband to his wife, Beth, and father to his daughter, Annabelle.

Tyler Hanson

Production Minister

Tyler was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. After graduating from Vanguard University in 2007, he felt a real calling to ministry and moved his family to Michigan to win Downriver for Christ! Tyler and his wife, Stephanie, have a boisterous son named Ryker, and a precious daughter named Melody. A couple interesting things about Tyler: He can solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than two minutes; and he can croon like Frank Sinatra!

Ben was born in Texas but raised in Kansas, with his seven other siblings. When he graduated High School, he returned to Texas where he served in a ministry for five years. He met a Michigan gal there named Amy. They dated long distance for a few years then got married and served in youth ministry in Virginia. In 2012, Ben and Amy moved back to Michigan to be closer to family, and that’s when they made Southpoint their home church. Ben loves to write songs, play his guitar and sing, play basketball, and hang out with family and friends. Ben and Amy have two daughters: Moriah and Selah.

Director of Campus Operations

Dawnell has been a member of Southpoint since 2006, and worked in the medical field for 17 years before joining our staff. As a volunteer, she has been dedicated to Info Central and supporting C-Groups for many years, became the Trenton Campus Pastor’s Administrative Assistant in 2014, and hired on to her staff role in July 2017. Dawnell has been married to Thomas since 1993 and they have 3 children: Aaron, Aden and Emma. When not around Southpoint, she’s usually attending her son’s hockey games, her daughter’s softball, dance or cheer, or just spending time with family.

Communications Director

Jessica is a life-long Michigander - raised in mid-Michigan, and attending Michigan Tech in the beautiful Upper Peninsula. By the time she moved Downriver to work in the auto industry, she had a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a man’s devoted attention (who is now her husband, Chad), and a heart for God. She found Southpoint in 2006, started volunteering in the office in 2008, hired on in 2011, and has held her current title since 2014. When not around Southpoint, Jessica likes to spend time outdoors and cooking from scratch in her kitchen.
